Big Tree Station

An early name for the railroad stop by El Palo Alto, from the days when the redwood was the landmark on the line.

The San Francisco and San Jose Railroad reached the tree in 1863, and the section from San Francisco to “Big Tree Station” at the creek opened that October. Later, the depot at University Avenue was also known to many as Big Tree Station.
