Eichler homes

The modern, one-story houses built by Joseph Eichler after the Second World War; he built almost 3,000 in Palo Alto.

Joseph Eichler’s company built its first 63 homes in Palo Alto’s Green Gables subdivision in 1950, designed by Anshen & Allen. Architectural Forum named it a subdivision of the year, and Green Gables was listed on the National Register in 2005.

Eichler opposed racial covenants and built almost 3,000 homes in the city, mostly south of Oregon Expressway; Greenmeadow is another of his historic districts.
