San Francisquito Creek

The creek along Palo Alto’s northern edge, the boundary with Menlo Park and East Palo Alto and with San Mateo County.

San Francisquito Creek flows from the hills behind Stanford to San Francisco Bay. Mission Santa Clara’s lands, and later several ranchos, used it as their northern boundary, and El Palo Alto grows on its bank.

The creek has flooded the low-lying northern neighbourhoods more than once, most memorably at Christmas 1955, when it broke its levees and filled more than 650 homes.
